Ingredients of cornflakes upma

  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon chana dal
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1 twig of curry leaves
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 cup Apis cornflakes


Method of preparation

In a heated pan, pour the cooking oil. Once heated, add the mustard and cumin seeds. Once they splatter, add the urad and chana dal. You may skip this step, However the dal adds a nice crunch to the dish. Once the dal changes colour, add the curry leaves and chopped ginger and green chillies. Next, add the onion and fry till light golden. Add the tomato and fry till it becomes pulpy. Add the turmeric and salt. Add the Apiscornflakes and mix well together. Pour about a cup of water, cover and let it cook for about 5 minutes. Remove the lid, give a gentle stir and finish it with lime juice and chopped fresh coriander.

Method of preparation

Boil the Vermicelli, run under cold water,drain and keep aside. Heat oil in a pan. Temper it with mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add the vermicelli and salt and mix well. Just before serving, add curd and give it a gentle stir. Your perfect summer breakfast is ready.

You can add any topping of your choice, like roasted peanuts, cashews, coconut etc. Since this dish remains fresh for a long time, you can even carry this for lunch.


Oats with Jam
